| 8. It has been generally accepted that the MHC/NOR chromosome is number 16 (Bloom et al., 1987). A number of papers from different laboratories have confirmed this.
Fig. 1(a) is a photograph of GTG banded chromosomes 1 through 8 and the Z and W chromosomes of the domestic fowl, and Fig. 1(b) is the corresponding ideogram. Fig. 2(a) is a photograph of RBG banded chromosomes 1 through 8 and the Z and W chromosomes, and Fig. 2(b) is the corresponding ideogram. |
The ideograms were drawn using black and white for all bands. Centromeres are represented by major constrictions between the short (p) and long (q) arms. The chromosomes are approximately to scale based on Fechheimer (1990).
