The role of the USDA-CSREES National Poultry Genome Coordinator is to help facilitate development of poultry genome mapping and the search for important quantitative trait loci. The Poultry Genome Coordinator was chosen via competitive search by the USDA-CSREES National Animal Genome Research Program (NAGRP), along with Coordinators for Cattle, Swine, Horse, and Sheep. The NAGRP, led by its Director, Richard Frahm, coordinates the efforts of all the Species Coordinators and supervises the individual budgets of all coordination projects. The NAGRP serves and reports to the overall Animal Genome Technical Committee (AGTC) which consists of all the participating scientists, along with appropriate representation from industry and the USDA-CSREES. The AGTC is divided into species-specific subcommittees; the Poultry Coordinator serves and reports to the Poultry Subcommittee of the AGTC, which meets annually and elects a Chairperson and Secretary. Poultry genome coordination is a collaborative effort of Michigan State University (MSU) and the USDA-ARS Avian Disease and Oncology Laboratory (ADOL). Jerry Dodgson of MSU acts as Coordinator, assisted by Hans Cheng of ADOL.
